- Summary
- COI synopsis: Wimbledon, the most famous tennis tournament in the world is also the oldest, and this year sees its 100th anniversary. In those hundred years, the All-England Club at Wimbledon has seen lawn tennis grow from an adjunct to crocquet to one of the most popular sports in the world. So just before the centenary championships opened, Maggie Palmer went on a tour of the famous courts. She found that play has certainly changed since twenty-two men battled out the first-ever tournament in 1877, but that the care lavished on the turf plainly shows a centenary of experience.
