- Summary
- COI synopsis: The comic operas of Gilbert & Sullivan are as much a part of the British tradition as cricket or afternoon tea. In 1875, Richard D’Oyly Carte formed his own company to perform these operas and ever since, the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company have been wandering minstrels, entertaining audiences throughout Britain, Europe and the United States. Our reporter visits the D’Oyly Carte backstage, shortly before they undertake their first tour of Australia, and finds out what it is like to be "on the road" for forty eight weeks of the year.
