Summary
COI synopsis: Pollution can suffocate the seas, drown the land and stifle the atmosphere. And less obvious but equally insidious forms of pollution make similar inroads into our existence. It’s an invasion that British scientists are trying to combat. The fresh air of the countryside isn’t always so fresh. At harvest time, it can be a choking cloud of the finest dust. A new helmet, sucking air in from the back, cleaning it and pumping it in a cool draught down across the wearer’s face is a welcome protection.
