Summary
COI synopsis: Hearing tests are vital for young children, to discover early on if their hearing is impaired; without them, a child may never develop proper speech. Routine tests have always been inconclusive, but a new one, using an inert muscle behind the ear, has proved definitive. The muscle is the same one used by animals to twitch their ears in response to sound.
