Summary
COI synopsis: Science has given time a different meaning - what was once the work of years is now achieved in days; days are reduced to seconds. This issue looks at a few of the developments which are helping to make this an instant world. A crop of vast circular oases are creeping across the Libyan desert as a new way of creating an instant oasis gets under way. A huge sprinkler arm sweeps out a continuous circle of irrigation so that even in the finest soil, where water-retention is almost impossible, plant roots can pick up the water they need to grow.
