Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Attempt to Blow-Up Margate Pier. DESCRIPTION: Storms along the South-East coast have taken their toll on its Piers. At Herne Bay a large middle section of the Pier has been washed away. Margate Pier has suffered the same fate and it was decided to remove the end section with explosives. The charges were detonated, but the firm foundations of the Pier refused to move and it still stands. SHOTLIST: Library Material - GV storm waves on coast. Zoom up from previous shot. LS Herne Bay Pier Pavilion. Pan pavilion to end of pier showing missing section. GV pan pier. MS gateway ‘Margate Pier Cross Harbour Company 1812’. Pan along damage pier sections. LS charges placed on pier section. LS ditto. Zoom out explosive experts in dinghy to GV pier. LS spectators on cliff top. CU ditto. GV pier and explosion (but pier still stands). LS explosive expert in rubber boat.
