Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Prince Charles Visits Yugoslavia. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful Adriatic resort of Dubrovnik was the starting point for the Prince of Wales’ visit to Yugoslavia, his first to a Communist country. The Prince toured the old walled city on foot. At the Villa Galeb at Igalo Prince Charles met the 86 year old leader of the Yugoslav people, President Tito. The Prince visited Makljen, the site of a key battle fought by Tito’s Partisans during the Second World War. Sir Fitzroy Maclean, who headed the British Military Mission to aid the Partisans, explained to Prince Charles the importance of this battle. In Belgrade’s Cultural Palace His Royal Highness attended a banquet which was followed by a display of Yugoslav Folk Dances. At the end of his successful week as a visitor to Yugoslavia the Prince received a telegram from President Tito ‘wishing him well’. SHOTLIST: MLS aircraft on runway at Dubrovnik Airport.
