Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Gold Cup. DESCRIPTION: Gold Cup Day at the Royal Ascot Race Meeting turned out to be the day when umbrellas were the fashion accessory. The Royal Carriage drive down the Course was made in covered carriages. In the Gold Cup it was a third victory for jockey Greville Starkey, winner of the Derby and the Oaks and this time riding ‘Shangamuzo’ first past the post. Second was ‘Royal Hive’ and third ‘Hawkberry’. SHOTLIST: GV Ascot racecourse. LS crowd. GV procession down course. LS ditto showing the Queen in enclosed carriage. MLS crowds with umbrellas. GV carriage turns off racecourse. Ditto showing the Queen. Various of crowds and fashions (not raining). Various crowds in rain. Zoom out waiter with basket and umbrella. LS pan sea of umbrellas. GV Queen walks from crowd of umbrellas. LS Queen Mother and royal party with umbrellas. GV crowd and bookies with brollies. LS race board. Various horses parade. LS crowd. MS starter on rostrum. MCU the start. LS ditto. LS crowd. GV horse past grandstand Nos 7, 9, and 1 followed by rest of field. CU umbrellas. LS horses approaches bend Norse No 2 ‘Citoyen’ (ridden by Yves Saint-Martin), withdrawn from race (has heart attack and dies not seen). Zoom in No 2 withdrawing. Pan finish of race from last furlong to post - 1st ‘Shangamuzo’, 2nd ‘Royal Hive’, 3rd ‘Hawkberry’. Zoom out sign 1st horse led and jockey Greville Starkey (3rd big race win this year, previously the Derby and the Oaks). MS ditto. Zoom out sea of umbrellas. NB - Rain & umbrella sequences very good.
