Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Grand National. DESCRIPTION: Veteran of Aintree and three times National winner ‘Red Rum’ led the Parade before the start of the 1978 Grand National Steeplechase. Injury denied ‘Rummy’ the chance to try for his fourth victory and he has now been retired. Favoured horses ‘Tied Cottage’ and ‘Master H’ were among the early fallers and only fifteen of the thirty-seven starters completed the tough National Course. The finish was the tightest for many years with ‘Lucius’ winning by just a half a length and a neck from ‘Sebastian V’ and ‘Drumroan’. ‘Lucius’ was ridden by Bob Davies (who only got the ride two days before) and owned by Mrs Fiona Whitaker from Fife.
