Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pretoria Steel Works. DESCRIPTION: For three years the Iscor Steel Mill in Pretoria continued to function whilst a new mill was built around it. Present at the change-over ceremony were representatives from the German and Japanese companies, who together with the South Africans, constructed the new mill. SHOTLIST: GV Iscor headquarters in Pretoria. MLS new mill being built. Pan round. GV new mill on left of shot. Old mill in b/g. MS life line (old mill) operated on right of frame while building the new mill on left of frame. MS old mill - the life line. Pan as hot steel goes past camera and stops. MS men in control room. MS hot steel moves away from camera. MS new mill being built. Camera turns to angled shot. MS gear for new mill being moved by crane. MS men working on new mill. MCU man welding. MS construction of new mill. MS Japanese representative of Toshiba, Tokyo switching on machine, on his right is the German representative and on his left the Managing Director of Iscor, Mr Hans Coetzee. MCU German representative (of Schloemann’s, Dusseldorf). MS Mr Hans Coetzee shaking hands with Japanese representative. MS people clapping. MS German representative talking to official while being watched by Japanese representative. Tilt down to another control panel and at 329’ German presses button which calls steel from reheating pit. MLS steel moving along through plant. MS steel coming from under camera. MS Managing Director presses button to alter course of metal. MLS metal coming into another area. MS hot metal moving away from camera. MCU Managing Director with hand on button. Tilt up to see him. MS hot metal going away from camera.
