Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Battle of Flowers. DESCRIPTION: Once an actual battle where the participants pelted each other with flowers, today the "Battle of Flowers" means a Carnival Parade through the streets of St. Helier. Millions of individual blooms are used to decorate the floats and all are locally grown. There is intense rivalry between the float-builders as they vie to win the coveted "Prix D’Honneur". This year’s "Miss Battle" was Susan Hughes and she was accompanied in the Parade by TV Star Richard O’Sullivan. SHOTLIST: MLS cars coming towards camera with giant letters on the top saying "JERSEY" with girls behind the letters. MCU one of the girls. MS another girl. MS one of the floats its "All The World Loves A Clown". MS people on the float. MS track past the end of the float to see at the back a clown’s sad face. MS float called "Will The Angels Play Their Harps For Me" going past. MS float "The Glories Of India" going by. MS float "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" going towards camera. MS one of the girls on above float. MCU another character on above float. MS "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" on float, it goes past (this won Prix D’Honneur). MS people watching. Pan to see start of "Peter Pan" float going past with girl sailor waving. MS crocodile in water behind Captain Hook’s ship. Tilt up to see ship. MS Captain Hook and various other characters waving. MLS float carrying Carnival Queen coming towards camera. MCU Carnival Queen Susan Hughes sitting next to Richard O’Sullivan. MS people sitting on a float "Midnight Magic". Tilt up to see Cinderella with clock just above her. MS girls on the Etam float going past. MS boy carrying sign "Most Humorous Award" Gertrude Vibert Memorial Trophy which was won by Tom Foolery, camera tracks back to see float. The two characters are Tom and Jerry. CU face of dragon on float "This is the Year of the Dragon or what we found in the bottom of the Reservoir" at 593’ smoke comes out of the dragon’s nostrils. MS float coming towards camera. MCU dragon’s face blowing out smoke. MS dragon float going away from camera. MS crowd. MS British Airways float with model Concorde on it. MS front of float called "That’s Entertainment" it goes past camera. MCU part of the float above a giant figure. MS ditto. Zoom into see helicopter dropping petals. MS petals dropping amongst the people. MLS helicopter dropping petals. MS "Peter Pan" float in foreground with petals dropping.
