DESCRIPTION: HM the Queen declares open the twenty-first modern Olympic Games and as a gesture to the French-Canadians makes the speech in FrenchBefore the lighting of the Olympic Flame the teams of the competing Nations march behind their flags into the StadiumThe opening events in the Olympic Pool seemed to be dominated by the girls from East Germany, Kornelia Ender created a new world record to take the ‘Gold’ in the 100 metres Free-style. In the Mens events it was the team from the USA on top, winning the 4 x 200 metres Relay and John Hencken the 100 metres BreaststrokeOnce again Womens Gymnastics produced a top star, 14 year-old Nadia Comaneci from Rumania, overall she collected the maximum ten points six times.
