MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: New Container Ship. DESCRIPTION: The launching of the new container ship ‘Kilkenny’ at Verolme Cork Dockyard, Cork, doesn’t go quite to plan. SHOTLIST: GV new container ship Kilkenny ready for launch on slipway at Rushbrook Dockyard, County Cork, with band marching in foreground. CU notice Launching Time 17.00 hrs. AS showing name Kilkenny pan to GV of ship. SV Reverend St John Thornhill conducting service on launching platform. LV keel of ship. SV Mrs Margaret Barry, wife of Mr Peter Barry, Minister of Transport & Power, holding bottle of champagne which she releases & bottle hits bow of ship. SV Mrs Barry cuts line with silver hatchet to release ship down slipway but ship does not move an inch. SV VIPs waiting. SV pan group of workmen waiting. LV pan from stationary ship to VIPs leaving launching platform. SCU 4 Irish naval officers talking to VIP. SV Mr & Mrs Peter Barry with VIPs standing beside ship. SV group of VIPs pan up to ship. GV new ship still high and dry on slipway.
