- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Open Golf Championship. DESCRIPTION: The one hundredth British Open Golf Championship and an outstanding victory for the Mexican Lee Trevino. Trevino was leading by three strokes by the half way mark, but disaster struck on the 17th hole when he shot two over par. He held on however to take the championship from Formosan Liang Huan Lu and Britain’s Tony Jacklin in 3rd place. Trevino brought off an incredible Golf Hat Trick with wins in the US Open, the Canadian Open and now the British Open in only four weeks. SHOTLIST: GV course. SV Lee Trevino USA putting on the 8th green, ball goes down at 13’ (long putt) - pan back at 17’ as Trevino drops on his knees - pan to crowd, zoom into ball. SV zoom back to massed crowds on the 18th green. SV Raymon Sota of Spain, chipping from sand bunker, ball stops near hole. GV Jack Nicklaus of USA putting on 18th, ball sinks at 31’ zoom back GV and crowds. STV Nicklaus and Sota walk off green together. SV Tony Jacklin onto the 18th. SV crowd applaud. SV Jacklin putting on 18th at 74’, ball misses. SV Gary Player of South Africa putts and sinks ball on 18th at 90’, he shakes hands with Jacklin. GV mass crowds swarm to the end of the 18th. SV leader Board 1) Trevino, 2) Lu, 3) Jacklin. GV pan crowds on edge. SV Trevino walks onto 18th. SV Liang Huan Lu from Formosa (Taiwan) walks onto 18th. LV mass crowds. SV Trevino putts from edge of the green, pan up as ball stops near the hole at 133’ zoom back to GV. SV Lu putting - sinks at 146’, raises his hat. SV Trevino sinks at 160’ to win open - throws head in air at 169’, he greets Lu with a hug and at 181’ he runs and greets his wife Claudia. SV Lu being cheered. SV leader board. SV Trevino receives Open Golf trophy.
