MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News in Colour Army Exercise Malaya. DESCRIPTION: Fourteen thousand British troops join Commonwealth forces in the giant defence exercise Bersatu Padu. The scheme involves five nations - Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Malaysia and Singapore. It’s aimed at co-operation in defending SE Asia after the planned British military withdrawal from the Singapore and Malaysian bases next year. To get the British troops there involved the biggest airlift ever undertaken by this country in peacetime. SHOTLIST: Aerial shot from chopper of aircraft carrier. SCU pan soldiers on deck.
