Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Launch That Nearly Wasn’t. DESCRIPTION: In Los Angeles, the widow of Australia’s late Prime Minister launches a ship that bears his name - but not before an embarrassing tussle with the champagne bottle that refuses to shatter! SHOTLIST: MS Australian and American flags. Pan down to sailors marching with flags. General shot crowd look on. MS naval officials, standing on rostrum, salute. MCU Dame Zara Holt. Elevated view of crowd. MCU Dame Zara Holt hitting bottle of champagne several times against sub in vain attempt to break the bottle. The shipyard manager assists and breaks the bottle as submarine slides away. Sub slips away from camera into water. MCU crowd of boys cheering and clapping. MLS sub at the end of slipway.
