Losses of stock and property have not yet been estimated but the worst tragedy was the loss of eight lives, five of those children. Firemen tried to use the roads as natural fire-breaks in places. With much of the countryside in tinder-dry condition, the bush fire hazard in South Australia has reached the high peak of danger. SHOTLIST: General view of forest burning.
