Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News in Cinemascope - Grand Prix (In Colour). DESCRIPTION: All roads to Brands Hatch were busy on the day of the British Grand Prix. Rain or shine, motor racing fans were certainly not going to miss this unique occasion. With all sorts of new amenities for spectators, a magnificent programme of events and of course, the Grand Prix as a climax. Over a hundred thousand turned up to watch. With all its bends and gradients the new Brands Hatch circuit makes great demands on driving skill. Earl Mountbatten, President of the RAC arrived in a helicopter. He was naturally keen to see the RAC British and European Grand Prix (sponsored by the Daily Mail). He was to present the trophies. The whole atmosphere must have revived nostalgic memories for famous racing driver Stirling Moss. Jim Clark made sure of victory but by a margin of less than 3 seconds. A magnificent race, and after it had been won, all that remained was Jim’s lap of honour. Earl Mountbatten presented the cheque for a thousand pounds and the trophy. SHOTLIST: Scenes.
