Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News Events - in Colour Spalding Tulip Festival. DESCRIPTION: The fertile fields of South Lincolnshire are the heart of Britain’s bulb-growing industry. We went along there at tulip time, where some 3 thousand acres are devoted to the growing of some of the finest tulips in the world. It takes 3 years for a bulb to reach sufficient flowering size to be sold, and each year as the flowers reach full bloom, the heads have to be nipped off to give the bulbs more vigorous growth. These heads are either thrown away, or used for one of the biggest flower festivals in Britain - the Flower Parade at Spalding, with its magnificent floats in all colours of the rainbow.
