Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: We Fear Nothing. DESCRIPTION: We fear nothing. That’s a quotation from the traditional submarine commissioning ceremony. Certainly Dreadnought’s crew of 79 ratings and eleven officers have little to fear, for she can deal with any kind of ship or submarine afloat today, says her captain 38-year-old Commander Samborne. The commissioning ceremony took place at Vickers-Armstrong’s yard at Barrow, where Dreadnought was built. Dreadnought (incidentally the ninth Royal Navy ship to bear the name) is considerably larger than the conventional sub. She carries more torpedoes too. The torpedo-deck is a vast undersea arsenal. ‘Joysticks’ are used to control steering and the hydro-plane mechanism. She’s designed for very long distance patrol work, lasting anything up to nine months. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV Dreadnought. MS same. CU sign Dreadnought. GV crew by submarine. MCU Dreadnought’s Commander Captain Samborne, crew and pan to Dreadnought (4 shots). MLS Captain Samborne. MS flag, old Dreadnought which sank (3 shots). Man working inside Dreadnought (3 shots).
