- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Kingdom of King Willow. DESCRIPTION: Down at Robertsbridge in Sussex, they’re closer to Summer than most, and this is the busiest time of year. They’ve been making cricket bats here since 1876, and they’ve yet to find a better wood than willow for the job. With a bat made here, the great WG Grace scored his hundredth century, knocking up over two thousand runs with the same piece of willow. And Ted Dexter knows that the balance and bite of a bat are more than half the battle! We also visited a factory in Kent to see the skilful craft of making a top-class cricket ball. The industry is almost entirely situated in this county. SHOTLIST: Key scene. Batsmen (3 shots). GV workshop. MS wood through electric saw. MS man planing bat.
