From the earliest days of smelting, Britain has been in the forefront of the industry’s development. Since 1945, British steel has forged ahead with a tremendous programme of expansion and technical advance. Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by Prince Philip, arrived to open the 50 million pound Spenser Steelworks in South Wales, and she toured this gigantic enterprise where automation and remote control achieve just about their ultimate.
