Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pictures From Space. DESCRIPTION: Telstar, the television relay-station in space, is the first commercially-owned satellite ever to be launched. The receiving station in England, Goonhilly Down in Cornwall, was built by the Post Office in just over a year to receive the first pictures which were of disappointing quality. In France, on the Brittany coast near Lannion, first pictures were a good deal better. But these pictures show only just the beginning of what is rightly described as a new era in communications.
