Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Germany’s Flood Disaster. DESCRIPTION: With rivers, notably the Elbe and the Weser, breaking their banks, following exceptional tides and hurricane force winds, disaster on a huge scale has hit North Germany, and mile upon mile is flooded. Thousands of homes are isolated. The whole area has become the scene of a vast rescue operation, and helicopters have played an invaluable part in saving life. So have British troops (reported to have saved over two thousand people). There have been many casualties, and a heavy death-roll, the total not yet known. It’s estimated that at least forty thousand are homeless.
