Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen in West Africa (Colour). DESCRIPTION: The Volta River is destined to play a most important part in the future economy of Ghana. Dredging and other work has already started at the site of the dam for the great Volta project. It’s a place called Akosombo, and a visit there was naturally on the Queen’s programme. The Accra Turf Club also featured in the royal engagements. It was a dressy occasion, for everyone knew the Queen and Prince Philip were coming. A beautiful bouquet was presented to Her Majesty who then proceeded to the paddock for a look at the runners in the big race of the day. She presented the Cup, the Queen Elizabeth Cup, to be raced for annually. In the evening, at the State House, Accra, the Queen, partnered by President Nkrumah, started the ball High Life, and there was a special display of fireworks in the Queen’s honour.
