- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: On the Brink. DESCRIPTION: A narrow cart-track is the only link with the city for farmers in Eiskeller, an offshoot of West Berlin. British troops have been giving them protection, while they’ve been getting in the harvest. The farmers are almost entirely cut off, almost completely surrounded by the hostility of the East German regime. The Iron Curtain in the city itself is now a concrete wall. It marks the brink of freedom, and West Berliners come close to it to wave to friends and relatives in East Berlin. Tear-gas bombs are hurled over from the East to drive them off, but whenever they can, the people throw them back again! SHOTLIST: Key scene. LS pan from warning notice to cart track.
