Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Laos Crisis. DESCRIPTION: Meeting at the United States Naval Base at Key West, Mr Macmillan came to confer with President Kennedy. Britain’s Premier had interrupted his West Indian tour at the President’s request. The situation in Laos was critical, and this was one of the most important subjects that they now met to discuss. The Kingdom of Laos has been independent since 1949. Its population of about 2 million is peace-loving and in-offensive. Yet their country has been turned into a battlefield. In recent months, Laos has presented an example in miniature of the world-wide conflict between East and West. America has alerted troops in her Pacific command, and some are seen here carrying out a recent exercise. SEATO nations have definite obligations in the area. This is what President Kennedy told a press conference. SHOTLIST: Key scene. MS Macmillan shakes hands with John Kennedy. MS same walking. MS same talking at table. MS Mr Kennedy. MS Macmillan.
