Summary
When Terry Downes, Britain’s Middleweight Champion, met Paul Pender in the arena at Boston, he had high hopes of wresting the world title from the American holder. After some brisk boxing, Downes was floored. Having taken the compulsory count of eight, the British champ was back in action, and the fight continued at a hot pace. But then, old cuts around Terry’s eyes were opened up, also one on the bridge of his nose. This cut severed an artery, and Terry’s seconds were unable to stop the flow. So, in the seventh round, referee Bill Connelly decided to stop the fight.
