- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Eye in the Sky. DESCRIPTION: Tiros I stands for Television and Infra-Red Observation Satellite, and it marks a new adventure in space: weather observation. It’s packed full of scientific instruments, and the most important of all are two Vidicon cameras. A Thor-Able carried Tiros I in its nose, at the historic launching from Cape Canaveral. A diagram shows how the last stage of the rocket shot the satellite into orbit round the globe. The information it gathers is sent back to earth. This American space probe with a difference was explained to President Eisenhower at the White House, together with what the satellite saw. SHOTLIST: GV Tiros I rocket. MS scientific instruments.
