Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Memorial to Pioneers. DESCRIPTION: Mr Sean Lemass, deputy Premier of the Irish Republic, unveiled the inscription of a memorial which has been put up near Clifden in the wild Connemara country. It commemorates Alcock and Brown, the pioneers of Atlantic flight. Forty years ago, they took off from Newfoundland in a Vickers Vimy bomber. Flying without any of the modern aids, they were the first men to make a non-stop air crossing of the Atlantic. For their daring achievement, both pilots were later knighted. Now, the monument (near where they landed) is a permanent reminder of a great flying achievement. SHOTLIST: MS memorial (key). GV sea & countryside. GV ceremony. MS Mr Lemass unveils inscription.
