DESCRIPTION: Field Marshal Sir William Slim, Australia’s Governor-General and Mr Menzies, the Premier, were at the airfield to offer the official welcome to the Queen and the Duke on their arrival at Canberra. The Queen reviewed contingents of troops from Papua and New Guinea. It was at Parliament Buildings that the Chief Canberra engagement was fulfilled.
