MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Australia Hails Queen. DESCRIPTION: The scenes in Sydney on the night before the Queen’s arrival might well have been a replica of the London scenes on the eve of the Coronation. When Gothic steamed into Sydney harbour, the Queen and the Duke received a tremendous welcome from hundreds of small craft and yachts. When the Queen and the Duke continued their journey to land by launch, they passed between lanes of yachts. Her Majesty and the Duke were greeted on landing by the Governor-General, Sir William Slim, the State Governor and the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies. The drive through Sydney was a triumphal progress, with tens of thousands of Australian lining the route. That night, Sydney said it with fireworks.
