MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Avalanche. DESCRIPTION: It was due to a thaw following the heavy snowfall that Austria’s worst avalanche struck and almost wiped out the village of Blons in the Great Walser Valley in Vorarlberg. Swiss aircraft played a rapid and vital part in rescue operations. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Snowdrift. LS snow covered valley. Houses and church covered in snow, only buildings that escaped wreckage. CUs buildings that were wrecked by avalanche. Rescue team comes across snow. CU name ‘Blons’, nearly covered in snow. Rescuers at work digging for survivors. Rescue dog nosing in snow. CU cow that is alive but partially buried by snow. Cattle led to safety through snowy lanes. Plane flies over & drops supplies. Rescuers waving - supplies dropping. CUs people rescued from under snow. Body brought from snow deluged house. Survivor taken away on sled. Helicopter takes off survivors to hospital. Rescuers still digging.
