Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Commonwealth Tour - Tonga & Auckland, New Zealand. DESCRIPTION: Visit to Tonga. and. New Zealand’s Welcome. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Artist’s impression as used in previous story. School-children marching out of college, under archway. Crowds beginning to line route at Nukualofa. CU types. GV Gothic lining off shore. Queen & Duke coming ashore in royal barge, having arrived by flying boat. Step ashore, shakes hands with Queen Salote who presents royal Tongan family to Queen & Duke. Queen Salote’s grand-daughter presents bouquet to Queen Elizabeth. Queen Salote & Queen Elizabeth in car, starts to rain, Salote puts up umbrella followed by our Queen. Various shots of cars driving through crowds. Royal party attend banquet, walking along tapa cloth (carpet looking) approach low table covered with suckling pigs, chicken, crayfish, etc. Royal party seated at low table, shots of locals eating during feast. Various shots of ‘flying foxes’ bats in tree eating all the fruit. Various shots of males & females (natives) dancing, cut-ins of royal party watching, & laughing. GV royal palace. Queen Salote shows royal party very old tortoise in grounds. Royal party driving through decorated city & crowds. Going aboard Gothic wearing garlands, also crew return with many gifts. Throwing garlands from Gothic as it leaves. Queen on bridge, LS New Zealand coastline. Ship draws along wharf. Crowds on shore. Royal Navy lined up on wharf. Maoris dancing in street. Queen steps ashore, greeted by Sir Willoughby Norrie, also Mr Holland. Queen inspects naval guard of honour. Crowds outside town hall, Queen & Duke on dais. Starts to rain, Mr Holland places mackintosh round Queen’s shoulders. Queen shots on own to finish.
