MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pirie’s Mile Victory. DESCRIPTION: In the International Mile Race for the Emsley Carr Trophy, at the British Games sponsored by the News of the World, Gordon Pirie won a great race from Santee of America in 4 minutes 6.8 seconds. It was a great thrill for the 40,000 spectators packed in at the White City. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Car driving round arena, carrying Wooderson, Gunder Hagg, Joe Binks, Nurmi. Crowds cheering. Start of race including Chataway, Bill and Pirie. Lawrenz of Germany, leading. Chataway No 10. Pirie No 39 lying third. Santee No 70 fourth. Pirie moves up with Santee. Nankeville challenges but fails. Santee overtakes Pirie. Pirie in final burst overtakes Santee to win. Pirie congratulated by Santee. Pirie does additional lap round track. CU Pirie.
