Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Duchess of Kent in Bandit Country. DESCRIPTION: Bertam Rubber Estate in the Settlement of Malacca - complete with barbed wire defences - received a visit from the Duchess of Kent and her son, the Duke. In the North, at Kuala Kubu Bahru, the Duchess, as Colonel-in-Chief, inspected the First Battalion the Queen’s Own Royal West Kents. In Kuala Lumpur, the Raja Muda (son and heir to the Sultan of Selangor) was at the airfield, with Sir Gerald Templer, to wish the royal visitors farewell. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV Rubber estate. GV ditto surrounded by barbed wire, in settlement of Malacca. Convoy passes through wire, Duchess of Kent alights from car. Duchess with Mrs Ross, planter’s wife, walk into bungalow. Duchess & Duke walk into plantation, Duchess tries her hand at tapping a rubber tree, also the Duke. Drive through cheering crowds, children. Arrive at Kuala Kubu Bahru, Duchess inspects Royal West Kents. Address regiment - silent. Marchpast - Duchess takes salute with Major General Stockwell. Kuala Lumpur - airfield, Raja Muda presents dagger (kris) to Duchess. General Templer shakes Duchess & Duke’s hands, they board plane, plane taxies & takes off, Templer & wife, the latter waving as plane disappears in the distance.
