Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Olympic Games Opened. DESCRIPTION: The opening ceremony of the Sixth Winter Olympic Games was performed by Princess Ragnhild, daughter of Crown Prince Olav. Thirty nations (a record) marched in the procession and the hoisting of the Olympic Flag was followed by the arrival of the torch. Jeannette Altwegg is seen competing in the compulsory figure skating, which she won in superb style. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Night shot - Olympic sign, lit-up with flames from pit rising. British team out of building. Walk towards camera, they include Jeannette Altwegg. Team in line skate towards camera. Jeannette Altwegg competes in figure skating. Skates into camera. Michael Carrington skating on ice. GV Stadium, Princess Ragnhild arrives, walks into stadium. In Royal Box. GV crowded stadium. Procession - British team - Norwegian team. Hoisting the Olympic flag. Norwegian skis round arena with torch, the flame burning in foreground with stadium crowded in background. Altwegg compulsory figure skating. Judges kneeling inspect Altwegg’s lines etc. - on ice. Judges by means of cards give their decision. At Holmenkollen, GV of the high ski jump run. Various shots of skiers down run, flying through air, & landing many hundreds of feet below, some fall. The stadium is the Bislett Stadium.
