Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Fuel and Power. DESCRIPTION: They’ve been queuing up for coke at the Birkenhead and Wallasey Gasworks - for coke, because of the coal shortage. An ingenious method of providing power - by Windmill generator has been in operation at one branch of a famous London restaurant company near Marble Arch. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Coke being shovelled into sack. At Birkenhead & Wallasey, people queuing for coke, being served, & paying cash at office. Prams etc. being used as transport. London, on top of Cumberland Hotel, various shots of windmills, including close-ups. MS instrument registering amperes. Elevated GV looking down Bayswater Road from top of hotel. MS (night) shop window lit up by power supplied from windmills.
