- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Exercise Broadside in the Mud. DESCRIPTION: The 7th Armoured Division, the 2nd Infantry Division and the Royal Air Force were the main participants in the exercise which took place near Paderborn in Germany. The mud hampered many of the tanks and vehicles during the exercise. SHOTLIST: KS. CU tank track & front bogey - SCU, on the move. Secretary of State for War Strachey chats (silent) with troops, several shots. MS Slim with officers. SCU Slim. Armoured troops on move, 7th Armoured, 2nd Infantry etc. Various shots of Centurion tanks moving along streets, over muddy fields, countryside etc. Centurion tanks at speed, pass over pontoon bridge, SCU of tanks through mud. German village, horse drawn cart through, tanks pass through, wedding procession pass tanks on village road. Geese follow wedding procession. Various shots of tanks advancing along road, lorries turned over, bogged, etc. Tanks pulling out other tanks bogged, several shots. Ground shot, Vampire fly overhead, shooting up trainload of tanks, explosions, around tanks, some on fire, Vampires swooping on same, (south of Blomberg). Convoy passes through Haustenbeck. Shot up by Vampires, several shots. Vampires out of camera - dusk shot (preceded by infantry lying flat in fields).
