MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: India - a Republic. DESCRIPTION: The day India became a Republic within the Commonwealth was certainly historic. Beneath portraits of Gandhi and Nehru, the High Commissioner (Mr Krishna Menon) read the proclamation at India House. SHOTLIST: KS. Night shot traffic passing in fore with India House in background. Interior - SCU portraits of Gandhi & Nehru on wall. MS & SCU Krishna Menon, High Commissioner addresses, declaring the proclamation. Signs declaration, addresses audience again.
