Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Loss of the Submarine Truculent. DESCRIPTION: The British Submarine Truculent which was rammed by the Swedish ship Divina, sank within a minute. This is one of the most tragic naval disasters in peace time since the sinking of the Thetis in 1939. SHOTLIST: KS. Taken from submarine under way, shot of her bows cutting water. Ditto. Library - GV "Thetis" lying in Liverpool Bay. Aerial of ships assembled around sunken position of submarine "Truculent". Aerial of the marker buoy. Several shots of piece of sub’s plating on bows of "Divina". GV rescue ship "Lifeline". Destroyer "Bicester" with her stern flag at half-mast. Southend lifeboat on the spot. MS frigate "Cowdray" stands by. Divers begin to descend, disappearing below water. Frogmen prepare to go down. Library - Frogmen underwater makes his way through iron-work. "Truculent’s" buoy hauled aboard. CU buoy. Men escape by way of Davis Escape Apparatus, several shots of men rising in water. (Frogmen & the former under-water photography"). Ambulance arrives at Gravesend Hospital. Survivors look through windows. Interior - Chatham, of survivors which include Petty Officer Cook, Raymond Fry. CU of him & MS giving an account of his escape. GV of the ships gathered in Thames Estuary. MS ensign at half mast on destroyer.
