- New Army slogan: "Waste nothing and win the war". A large variety of old materials made into useful things: eg: boots into fertilisers, old jerkins into gloves and brief cases. Shrunken woollens defelted by a chemical process. Repair departments put new life into old underwear. Oilskin anti-gas capes de-oiled, and oil used for soap and paint. Capes sent to paper mills. Manufacture of felting from rags. Oil from capes used in lino manufacture.
