First assault on Casablanca made by American troops. Air attack by enemy countered. First landings. Vichy French confined to barracks. (Bardia?) recaptured. Vichy chiefs capitulate. Beaches close to Algiers taken by combined US and British forces. Landings near Oran. Fighting Vichy snipers. British and Americans take over Maison Blanche aerodrome. Algiers taken with help of Admiral Darlan. Armistice arranged by Darlan and signed at Hotel St Georges. Italian subjects rounded up and imprisoned.
