- On the battleship Missouri Admiral Rawlings (of Britain) and US Admiral Halsey celebrate the victory over Japan, carving up a cake in the design of the Japanese flag. Members of the Japanese Imperial staff leave aircraft on the Island of Ei Shima, near Okinawa. Singapore is liberated. Indian troops arrive to take charge of Japanese POWs.
