- Summary
- Guernsey: A British warship sails into the harbour of St Peter Port. The German guard leaves the ancient castle and the German commander is marched off. All equipment is handed over to the British. The proclamation of liberty is read and the Union Jack hoisted - crowds cheer. A few weeks later, King George and Queen Elizabeth visit the islands, landing in Jersey, from the gun cruiser Jamaica. They later fly to Guernsey. Aerial view of the island - glasshouses for fruit and vegetables. US NATIONAL ARCHIVE ENTRY: 11 min, sd, B&W, 35mm British reoccupation [sic] of the Channel Islands. British warships steam into a Guernsey port. German troops march from a castle and lay down their arms. King George and Queen Elizabeth enplane in England and later deplane on Guernsey.
