Summary
The Prime Minister is greeted by General de Gaulle, at an airfield near Paris, and drives to the Arc de Triomphe for a wreath laying ceremony. The first Armistice Day ceremony for five years takes place. Churchill signs the Golden Book of Paris; walks down the Champs Elysees as part of a military parade. (Eden is present also.) Churchill drives through Paris in an open car, escorted by cavalry. US NATIONAL ARCHIVE ENTRY: 10 min, sd, B&W, 35mm Churchill lands in Paris, is greeted by General de Gaulle, lays a wreath on the Unknown Soldier’s tomb, reviews French sailors and soldiers near the Arc de Triomphe, and rides past large crowds.
