- US National Archive entry: 9 min, sd, B&W, 35mm Summary: On the British counter offensive in Libya following Rommel’s futile attempt to break through at El Alamein. British tanks cross a desert area; wounded tankmen are given first aid and placed on ambulances. US B24s bomb Tripoli as British armour advances. British planes strafe retreating German units and German ships attempting to land reinforcements and supplies. German POWs are marched to the rear. Shows Italian POWs and Arab natives as British forces enter Tripoli. General Montgomery receives the surrender of the city from its Italian mayor. British tanks are massed in the square, the British flag is raised and General Montgomery rides in a motorcade through the city.
