MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: First Test Match. DESCRIPTION: The First Test between England and South Africa was held at Trent Bridge. The South Africans batted first and both Melville and Nourse reached a century. SHOTLIST: KS GV Nottingham ground with crowds. Crowd shot. Norman Yardley and Alan Melville walk out onto ground, toss up, Yardley picks up coin, South African win toss. GV of play. CU Melville batting and running. Crowd shot. CU Nourse batting. Melville hitting his hundred and acknowledging cheers from crowd. Crowd shot. Nourse hitting his hundred and acknowledging, both running between wickets. Crowd shot. CU Hollies bowling out of camera. Nourse out and walks off pitch. CU SV Martin bowling, Melville walks off out. CU Hollies bowls to Dawson pan with ball, Godfrey Evans stumps Dawson. MS Tuckett bowled LBW by Hollies. CU Martin bowling, Evans tries to stump Lindsay but fails. CU three slips, backs to camera and walk towards wicket clapping. Elevated GV South Africans walking off and end of batting. Crowd shots. Into camera Cyril Washbrook and Len Hutton going out to bat. GV of pitch and play. CU Bill Edrich batting. Crowds and CU Denis Compton batting.
