Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Basutoland Welcomes the Royal Family. DESCRIPTION: From all over Basutoland native tribesmen trekked towards Maseru to greet the King and his family. The Royal family’s car also received an ovation from the Basuto people and was followed by a cavalcade of horsemen. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Royal train passes through the Veldt. Group shot of natives dancing. Natives on horseback make their way across barren country. In Maseru, shot of native villages. Shots of Chieftainess, Mantsebo Seeiso, walking through the native village with a few residents. Chieftainess talks with interpreter - MS, GVs etc. of native horsemen riding towards capital. SCU horsemen making their way over rocky passes, single horsemen, groups of horsemen, shots of others out of camera increasing in mass, dust rising from horses hoofs. Natives have blankets wrapped round them, native bands gathering, Maluti Mountains in background. Elevated shot of Royal Family in open Daimler car nearing capital, with their escort, followed by thousands of Basutos coming towards camera, very good shots - special. Driving through thousands of Basutos lining the route. CU King in full naval regalia, pan to CU Queen who turns away from camera. CU Princess Margaret, all on dais. MS the King addressing the Basutos. Pan to crowds hundreds of thousands. Chieftainess comes forward, mounts dais and is invested with OBE, King pins same on her, she backs away and curtsies. Crowds cheering, several shots. Royal train passing through the Veldt.
