MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Britain Can Make It Exhibition. DESCRIPTION: The King opened the Britain Can Make It Exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The change over from wartime to peacetime manufacturing is the theme of the exhibition. SHOTLIST: KS GV of revolving platform with women evening dress fashions, models, on same. Shot of models on revolving platform. Remnants of Spitfire; strings attached to engine, pan to pots and pans which is the other end of the strings. CU gun turret, pan to plastic shoe, both to demonstrate change-over from war to peace. King and Queen arrive, accompanied by Mr and Mrs Attlee, Lady and Sir Stafford Cripps. King makes opening speech, cut-ins during his speech. CU Queen. CU Mr and Mrs Attlee, shot of small crowd listening to King’s speech. CU King. Royal party start tour of exhibition. Inspect glassware. Various shots of toy section, ships, small craft, roundabout as used in nursery. Toy balloon hanging from ceiling. Roundabout revolving. Various shots of new type of cycle, with built-in radio and engine. Electrically air conditioned bed, King looking at same. Turning on switch of air conditioning apparatus. CU of an eye. MS space-ship which travels to the moon, MS of space-ship and moon. Decorative map on wall with all radio stations, plug being placed in required station. Shots of portable sewing machine, same being opened. Shots of new type of sailing ship, taken from several angles. Their Majesties inspect architect’s kitchen. GV of same in bathroom, girl seated underneath sun-ray equipment. In miner’s kitchen, girl running water in bowl of flowers which she paces on table and walks behind curtain.
